The large building illuminated with gold and orange lights is known as Hotel Ukraine. It is the last of the 7 Stalin’s skyscrapers. The building is 206 meters tall. It was built between 1953 and 1957. At the time of opening, it was the largest hotel in Europe.
In 1989, during an international music festival in Moscow, members of bands such as Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Mötley Crüe or Skid Row were staying in that hotel. They were complaining about the lack of toilet paper, no furniture in large rooms, inedible food, and even cockroaches. Between 2005 and 2010 the entire hotel underwent a $300 million renovation. Now it is one of the most prestigious hotels in Moscow.
The skyscrapers in the background are new. The first of them had been completed in 2001. Most of those buildings are part of the Moscow City business center. The three towers on the right are new apartment buildings scheduled for completion in 2021.
The picture had been taken from the Novy Arbat street.
